Top 5 books I Read in 2023

As we close the chapter on 2023 ( no pun intended), one of the things I like to do each year is reflect on the books I’ve read. Reading a good book has a way of inspiring, motivating and moving us. Books open our minds to new ideas, thoughts and ways of being that we may have not otherwise been introduced to. I’ve put together the top 5 books that have moved me in a profound way this year. Each book unique in its way, offers a nugget of gold to take with you into the year ahead.

Happy Reading!

I had no idea what to expect when I started this book, and once I started it, I could not stop listening. The Change is a captivating and thrilling read about 3 women who become unlikely friends. The author creates such a descriptive story that I felt like I was there every step of the way feeling a wave of emotions as the book intensifies.

Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of those books that will stay in my soul for the long haul. This heart warming story had such a positive impact on me. It reminded me that humans and mammals (or in this case cephalopods) can have such a profound connection. If we as humans, were better listeners to the non verbal communicators of our world we would learn so much from them.

If you haven’t already listened to this memoir-it is a must listen!! And I specifically say listen because Matthew Perry does the actual audible audio book to his book and I loved listening to him recount his life. It felt like he was right there in the room, sharing it all. So whether or not you are a friends fan, or a Chandler Bing fan doesn’t matter- Matthew’s memoir is so heart wrenchingly honest and open that I’d encourage anyone to pick it up.

One of my mentors and the person who really inspired me to become the yoga teacher I am today, recently wrote and published her first book. The concept is unique: it’s a kids book for adults! The idea being, we all have those 300 page self help books that we buy thinking we’ll come out a new person and instead the book just sits on our shelves unread. Bea & Lily offer an easy way to ingest many of the things we all face in life. The first book dives into the topic of Comparison- something we all deal with whether we recognize it or not. Brooke offers a beautiful reminder of life’s simple, but often forgotten truths.

This book came home with us after we visited the giftshop in the Portland Japanese Garden. I think it’s the perfect book to read at the start of a new year as the art of tidying up is not always a natural skill ( myself included) BUT is a skill that can be learned and makes all the difference in your livelihood and space. Marie Kondo, walks through how to actually declutter and organize in a way that is lasting and effective.

Happy tidying!
