Weekend Getaway to Texas!

Perks of living in OKC= It’s only a short hop to Texas!

After living in Fort Worth for 5 years it’s nice to be so close to the Lone Star State.

About a month ago, we planned a weekend away to ATX. Joe and I had never gone together, and being that it’s one of my FAVORITE cities- we had to go!

I’d love to share bits of the trip down south with you and must-sees along the way!

Where We Stayed:

Airbnb is my heartthrob! Ever since i used it back in 2013, i fell in love- and honestly, I’ve never had a bad experience ( knock on wood).. Great thing about ATX, is it’s Airbnb central- so many great ones to choose from, you really can’t go wrong. However, I wanted to find something a little more out of the box, given that Austin is known for their “ Keep Austin Weird” motto. So I found the perfect place. A one of a kind- glamping trailer!

Cool stops along the way:

On the 1-35 south, there are many noteworthy stops, but probably the most famous nowadays is good ole’ Waco, Texas!

Thanks to HGTV’s Fixer Upper stars Chip & Johanna Gaines, they have completely revamped the once small town of Waco. It’s now a destination spot for so many. Last time I was in Waco, the Gaines’s had just started construction on their now notorious “Silos”. What was once and abandoned saw mill has now become a community center and a spot for travelers to visit. From food trucks, to Joanna’s home goods store- there is truly something for everyone. Take the extra hour or two and make the stop in Waco! You won’t regret it :)

Best place we ate:

When it comes to food and ATX you honestly can’t go wrong.

But being a veteran to area, I have a little spot I love to go anytime I visit and this time was no exception. Sure, we ate at some fancier places, and tried some other things, but I rank Little Deli Pizzeria as the best place we ate on our weekend excursion.

What’s so great about it you ask?

Well,

  1. It’s BYOB- meaning you can bring your own bottle of vino, case of Topo Chicos, beers, you name it! Who doesn’t like to bring their own beverage?!

  2. They make AMAZING pizza and believe me when I say they are Texas sized pies!

  3. You get to sit underneath the hanging lights and feel like your part of the neighborhood community just enjoying dinner with the neighbors- literally!

What to do?

The real question is what can’t you do in Austin, Texas!?

There is truly something for everyone!

As for us, we opted for paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake. I like to rent from The Rowing Dock as you can choose anything from double kayaks, to paddle boards, to full dog-proof canoes. And when you see the view from the water, you’ll fall in love a little bit more with the city; Texas Hill country to one side, downtown ATX on the other. Now only if it had been warm enough to take a dip in the water! That’ll be next time!

So there you have it! Our quick two day trip to Texas was filled with lots of sweet memories, time outdoors, and good food.

I hope this blog helps you plan your own trip to the Lone Star State- if you want to see more check-out my Youtube video below:)
