Summer in The Lowcountry

In the month of July, we traveled back to one of our favorite places we’ve lived-Charleston, South Carolina. Many of you may not know, but even though we lived there for just a short time, it is a city that left its charm on us. So when our dear friends invited us to visit and stay at their home- we were thrilled to spend some summer days in the lowcountry. Charleston is a special place that many people visit and merely venture to King street and back; never edging beyond the famous landmarks. Below, I share some of my favorite places- some hidden gems, some one-of-a-kind places, and some home away from homes.

Where we ate

There’s nothing I love more than a tiny bakeshop that has freshly baked goods. Welton’s was a sweet new discovery this trip and once we discovered it, we visited every day we could.

Pro tip: Be sure to get there when they open if you want the full selection of goods and check their website as they are only open a select few days a week.

Oh and you really can’t go wrong with anything you choose, so just point to a few things and you’ll be quite happy.

I think this photo speaks a thousand words, or maybe I am just feeling nostalgic . But anyhow, I had been dying to go here as they opened shortly after we moved away, Sullivan’s Fish Camp is a perfect addition to Sullivan’s Island. Their menu ranges from fish and chips, fresh catch of the day, beet margaritas and my very favorite- the swordfish tacos (complete with Mexican style corn)!

Pro tip: Leave some room for their soft serve ice cream, you’ll feel like a little kid again hurrying to eat it before it melts in the warm Carolina weather.

Renzo is a Huger Street staple. It’s lovable, it’s intimate, it’s delicious. And let me tell you their wood fire pizza is unbeatable. Truthfully, this place is just a vibe. Whether you come with friends or just to sit at there New York City-esque bar, it is the place to be. Other menu favs? Korean fried chicken, the Caesar salad, and ask for the homemade Irish Cream- it’s the perfect ending to a fantastic meal!

Pro tip: We love siting at the bar, but if you want a table I’d make reservations as this place gets booked!

What We Did

This place is one of the reasons we keep coming back to Charleston. To call it a gym feels limiting to Ethos- it is SO much more than just a gym! This athletic club is truly one of a kind. From the pristine equipment, to their high caliber classes, to their strong culture- this is a true community of individuals that elevates my fitness journey in a way that leaves me so inspired each time I visit.

Pro tip: They offer an “Out of Towner” pass for those of you planning a visit.

I cannot encourage you enough to stop by, take a class, get your sweat on, and move your body at Ethos— you will be blown away!

White sand, warm water, and plenty of beach access for miles- Sullivan’s Island Beach is 1000% my favorite beach in all of Charleston. This place is what summer in the low country is all about. I left Charleston with sand in my suitcase, a smile on my face and a warm tan on my skin all thanks to Sullivan’s Island.

Pro tip: Grab a Pub sub on your way across the bridge- and if you don’t know what that is— you are in for a reaaal good sandwich..

Where We Stayed

Post House Inn

One of the most charming places in all of Charleston is the Post House Inn that resides in Old Village within Mount Pleasant. When we lived here, this was our frequent date night spot. On our recent trip, we decided to enjoy a night in the quaint bed and breakfast style inn. From the moment you arrive, The Village has a certain feel to it that welcomes you in. Staying at the Post House was true southern comfort. We had an incredible dinner downstairs, took a night stroll in the neighborhood admiring the beautiful old homes, and had a cozy breakfast in bed that made me never want to leave.

I cannot wait to return here on our next visit!

So there you have it, I hope this blog inspires you to discover Charleston or if you’ve been, then to rediscover it in new ways.

After all, summer in the lowcountry is a sweet kinda thing.

xoxo,

Gone’ Fishin!
