Absentee

I am lying in a soft bed gazing out a window to my left. This window reveals a city that is refreshing and new to my eyes. The lights create awestruck and wonder as I gaze out past the buildings. And I hear the drifting tunes of Coldplay in the background.

I am at a large party by the coast and I look down to see myself wearing a beautiful dress that moves as I do. The air is crisp as it is Feburary but the music is filling every inch of me with excitement. His hand is warm in mine as we enter under the hanging lights and there begins it all.

"Ilsa" I hear someone calling my name and I snap out of my current daze abruptly. My focus begins to come into tune and I look around realizing for a few moments that I was somewhere far away. It's as if my daydream grabbed hold of me and placed me in a moment that I find comfort going back to. A haven of past memories.

Awhile back, I saw a particular statue in Reggio Emilia, Italy; the statue had two heads looking in opposite directions. The guide shared with us that the first head was that of an elder man and he was looking back into "his past" and similarly the other head was of a young man with his gaze in the opposite way looking "towards his future". Neither head was simply looking to the present time; To the right now. And what if we chose that way? Instead of forward or back- gazing right here where we are.

So here I am outside, the sun is casting over my body and the wind is making ripples through my hair allowing it to tickle my face.

I see the water in front of me and I hear the voices of those I care for and I am most simply, right here.
